Offshore Wind
Overview & Benefits
Our goal is to develop offshore wind projects that will make a valuable contribution towards decarbonisation goals
Offshore wind turbines can be located far out at sea where wind is stronger and more consistent
High yield and capacity factors can be achieved offshore, providing a very competitive Levelised Cost of Energy (LCoE)
It is possible to transport and install much bigger turbines by vessel, more power per turbine can be generated offshore
Minimises or eliminates the visual impact from the coastline as locations are further out to sea
Offshore Wind Potential
Offshore wind has become a favoured form of renewable energy generation.
It has the potential to produce 7% – 11% of the EU’s electricity demand by 2030 (a fraction of the resource potential available in European sea basins) and has the potential to provide 80% to 180% at a competitive cost of EUR65/MWh or below.
Up to 45% of this energy is identified as coming from offshore wind. Therefore to capitalise on Europe’s full offshore wind potential, offshore wind as well as fixed foundation solutions will be required.
