Please explore this high-level overview of our proposed project in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Project

The renewable energy park (REP) will be built on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia. A REP is a facility that produces clean fuels using proven, mature technologies. This REP will produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable methanol.

SAF is produced from renewable materials. It is used to power aircraft and can match the performance of conventional jet fuel (derived from fossil fuels) while significantly reducing carbon emissions. Our SAF will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 90 per cent compared to conventional jet fuel. It will be used as a “drop in” fuel, meaning it can drop straight into existing fuel infrastructure on aircraft. Renewable methanol will be used to power ships and create other products.

The REP will be powered with renewable electricity generated from both solar and wind farms. This self-produced power will be used along with sustainable biomass and water to produce SAF and renewable methanol.

Process

Why Is This Project Needed?

Renewable energy is the future. As the world moves away from fossil fuels to combat climate change, the need for increased renewable energy production becomes crucial. Currently, electricity powers a portion of our global energy system; however, it cannot yet meet all our energy demands, particularly in the transportation sector. New alternatives must be sought.

Globally, governments and industries are focused on decarbonising the transportation sector, which is responsible for approximately one-fifth of all greenhouse gas emissions. The development and adoption of sustainable fuels is key to advancing this effort.
