Simply Blue Energy

About Us

TotalEnergies SBE US is a new partnership launched by TotalEnergies, a global multi-energy company, and Simply Blue Group, a pioneer in floating offshore wind, to unlock the vast potential for floating offshore wind projects in the United States.

The partnership will pursue the up to 35 GW market opportunity for U.S. floating offshore wind power by 2040. Today, TotalEnergies has over 10 GW of offshore wind in development around the globe, of which over one-third is comprised of floating offshore wind including over 2 GW of floating wind projects in South Korea. Simply Blue Group has more than 5 GW of offshore wind in development, off Ireland and the UK.

The venture will partner TotalEnergies’ expertise in large-scale offshore projects, Simply Blue Group’s floating know-how, and a team of pioneers of the U.S. offshore wind industry, to unlock untapped deep-water opportunities that will provide renewable electricity to millions of U.S. homes. Our aim is to deliver the benefits of proven floating wind technology at utility-scale, and provide reliable, cost-competitive clean power to Americans.

TotalEnergies is a global multi-energy company that produces and markets energies on a global scale: oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity. Our 105,000 employees are committed to energy that is ever more affordable, cleaner, more reliable and accessible to as many people as possible. Active in more than 130 countries, TotalEnergies puts sustainable development in all its dimensions at the heart of its projects and operations to contribute to the well-being of people.

Simply Blue Energy

Our Mission

To bring gigawatts of clean offshore wind energy to America’s electricity consumers, from the waters far offshore, where the greatest power potential runs deep.

The offshore wind farms we build will tap this yet-to-be harnessed, deep water, clean energy resource that is sufficient in size to meet the scale of
the climate and energy needs before us.

“Our ambition is to install 100 gigawatts of global renewable power generation by 2030, part of which will come from floating offshore wind projects. We are eager to see this partnership with Simply Blue help our Company meet this goal. We are convinced of the large potential of floating offshore wind to provide U.S. coasts with renewable electricity, and are committed to contribute our extensive expertise in offshore projects to make it happen.”

Stéphane Michel, President, Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies

“The future and next frontier of U.S. offshore wind is floating. This joint venture with TotalEnergies has everything we need to deliver floating offshore wind on America’s coasts. Almost two-thirds of U.S. offshore wind resources are found in deeper waters that require floating wind platforms. TotalEnergies SBE US brings together the scale, expertise, and international track record to responsibly develop floating offshore wind power on all of America’s coasts.”

Floating Offshore Wind in the U.S.

Simply Blue Energy
The U.S. has 2,000 GW of technical offshore wind capacity in its coastal waters, 60 percent of which can only be tapped by floating offshore wind turbines, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory reports.

In March 2021, the Biden Administration set a 30 GW goal for U.S. offshore wind by 2030.

Deep waters off the coasts of California, Oregon, Hawaii, Gulf Coast, Great Lakes and the East Coast hold as much as 35 GW of development potential by 2040, utilizing floating wind technology already deployed in other world markets.

Along with accessing deep-water sites, floating wind offers significant advantages in higher yield/capacity factors, ease of installation and minimal visual impact.

Globally, the potential for floating offshore wind energy more than tripled in 2020, to 26.5 GW, according to the U.S. Department of Energy, and floating wind costs are coming down rapidly.
