Simply Blue Group and Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs Sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the responsible development of the Goldboro Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project

Simply Blue Group, a leading developer of clean energy projects, has collaborated with the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs to establish a path forward focused on sustainable development. The collaboration aims to integrate Mi’kmaw knowledge and values into Simply Blue Group’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project in Goldboro, Nova Scotia, ensuring environmental stewardship and mutual benefits.

This partnership represents a commitment to respectful engagement, cultural preservation, and a shared vision for economic growth and sustainable development.

Hugh Kelly, Co-Founder & CEO of Simply Blue Group, stated: “Our partnership with the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs is built on a foundation of respect for local stewardship and collaboration. As we move forward in developing the Goldboro site into a sustainable aviation fuels hub, we are committed to ensuring that community voices and values are integral to every stage of the project. We are honoured to work alongside the Assembly and look forward to a lasting, mutually beneficial relationship that promotes both environmental sustainability and community prosperity.”

“The Mi’kmaq have a unique responsibility for the protection and conservation of our lands, waters, and resources. That is why it is so important that our voices are included in any development happening in our territory. We are hopeful that this MoU with Simply Blue Group will provide an opportunity to continue to collaborate on how we can make energy more sustainable in Mi’kma’ki” said Chief Sidney Peters, Co-Chair, Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs.

The Sustainable Aviation Fuel Project in Goldboro will utilise renewable electricity generated from Simply Blue Group’s solar and wind farms in the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s. A dedicated transmission line will connect these facilities, ensuring a seamless flow of renewable power. This renewable energy, along with Nova Scotia’s sustainable biomass and water resources, will be utilized to produce approximately 150,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel per year.
