The Role

The Development Engineer is responsible for supporting the development team across an exciting and broad portfolio of floating offshore wind projects.

The Development Engineer will ensure that all parties communicate and work efficiently together to well defined scopes and tackle development challenges collectively and efficiently using the defined project systems. Whilst supporting the projects across all disciplines, the candidate will be exposed to the development projects at a level commensurate with their competency and experience and their skills developed towards future project management roles. The candidate must adopt a solution focused approach to challenges and must demonstrate commercial acumen, initiative, desire to learn, self motivation and ambition to progress within the organisation.

The Project Engineer reports on a day-to-day basis to the Head of Engineering and is based at the Simply Blue Group office in Aerohub, Newquay, Cornwall.

This is a full-time role and travel from time to time in connection with the project should be expected. The post offers an attractive pension package, and the salary will be subject to negotiation and will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A relocation package will also be agreed, where necessary.

Responsibilities

Objective – assisting project managers on development of projects from opportunity identification to commissioning and to ensure that all project development systems are optimised and effectively implemented whilst carefully managing interfaces and quality across all disciplines.

Across these projects, core responsibilities and objectives will include:

• Support on HSEQ management for the projects, actively working towards the zero-harm project objective

• Provide effective project management support and coordination to the projects

• Propose ways of accelerating project development or adding value through innovation

• Offer intelligent and critical thinking and solutions

• Identify new opportunities

• Management of suppliers and NDAs and support on procurement

• Manage RFI processes and engage with the supply chain

• Provide interface management across disciplines and between suppliers

• Attend and arrange project meetings to ensure that workstreams are aligned and that deliverables are optimised

• Ensure the seamless flow of information is achieved through effective communications and orderly management of data

• Contribute to internal reporting, programme, budget, cost books and risk register updates

• Manage design decision logs

• Develop skills in layout drawing production through GIS

• Work within the project management and safety systems

• Develop depth of knowledge of all relevant regulatory requirements and standards as well as the development pathway for floating offshore wind

• Preparation and presentation of project literature, spreadsheets, reports and briefing notes including the competent use of all relevant software required to professionally convey project information

• Compliance with governance requirements and management reporting as required

• Assist in managing the local project office projecting professionalism

Experience Required

Essential

• Engineering Degree with 3 years’ experience in the renewable energy industry

• Experience of renewable energy project development in the UK, particularly early-stage project development, route to market and site leasing

• Appreciation of the importance of effective project and safety management

• Experience of representing an organization

• Experience of managing suppliers

• Team player with strong interpersonal skills

• Able to demonstrate alignment with our company values.

• Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate several external and internal stakeholders and workstreams

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to enable effective discussion and transfer of information between, contractors, team members and other stakeholders

• Fluent in English (written and spoken)

• Ability to work as a member of a large, multidisciplinary, and international team

• Ability to use Microsoft Office

• Ability to create and communicate complex technical information concisely and clearly.

• Experience in the offshore wind sector

• Experience in project management

• Proficiency in GIS

• Proficiency in MS Project
